You’ll have the flexibility to pick the schedule that works best for you, and you’ll be able to switch between apps and gigs.

Below are some of the best delivery app jobs, platforms you can use to get started, and some tips to finding which gig is right for you.

The main cons of working as a delivery driver is that you won’t have consistent income or a reliable job.

1. FedEx or UPS

Before I dive into the best delivery app jobs, it’s worth mentioning that you can make a full-time career delivering with FedEx and UPS — two of the largest companies that offer delivery services in the US.

UPS usually hires their delivery drivers as full-time employees, whereas FedEx uses independent contractors. you can pick which one works best for you depending on your preferences.

For both FedEx and UPS you will need a valid driver’s license and you will need to wear the uniform of the company. You will also need to be able to lift packages that weigh around 35 pounds.

On average, you can earn between $18 and $21 per hour when working for both companies.

2. Amazon Flex

Amazon has its own delivery program to deliver packages throughout the U.S. With Amazon Flex, drivers are independent contractors that deliver all types of packages to customers. You can easily check to see if Amazon Flex is hiring in your area on their website.

If they are hiring, download their app and fill in an application. You’ll be asked about your preferred schedule and when you want to work.

Depending on how in-demand your area is, you’ll be able to start delivering packages immediately or you may need to wait on a waiting list. With your driver’s license, Social Security number and personal details you should be ready to get going!

To work for Amazon Flex you will need to be at least 21, have your own van, a valid driver’s license and a smartphone. Expect to earn between $18 to $25 per hour, and you’ll get paid through direct deposit every Tuesday and Friday.

Things to Consider Before Trying to Make Money Delivering

While making money delivering items to people sounds pretty easy, there are some things you want to consider before signing-up and accepting any work.

Below are some of the things to understand and evaluate before you move forward.

  • Are you good with customer service, reliable, and stick to timely deadlines? While you don’t need any special skills to get started in delivery app jobs, you’ll need to have decent interpersonal skills and be personable with customers.
  • Do you have a reliable car and insurance? Because you are driving frequently, you want to ensure you have a good vehicle, are insured, and have a valid driver’s license. Some of the gig economy apps listed above may have certain vehicle requirements as well, so also be sure to read their FAQs.
  • For most of these delivery app jobs, you’ll be considered a contractor. This means, you’ll be responsible for taxes, keeping track of income, and expenses. Don’t let this scare you away from making extra money, but it’s something you’ll need to keep in mind if you are exploring these gigs.

How to Choose the Best Delivery App Job

So now that you know about some of the best delivery app jobs, how do you choose the right one(s) for you? Well, it depends on a few factors like:

  • Is it something you’d find enjoyable or interesting to you? If you hate food shopping, then shopping and delivering groceries probably isn’t for you!
  • Is the app available in your city or state? Some apps do not currently have access to every state or are only in select major cities.
  • Do you meet the minimum requirements to get started? Each app company is different, some you may only need to be 18 where others may require you to be at least 21.
  • Are you comfortable with your current town? If you know the city well and how to navigate efficiently, it can make you more money as you are reaching locations fast.

If delivery app jobs might not be your thing, there are tons of other ways you can make money too. But getting paid to deliver might be a rewarding and flexible way to boost your income.
