1. Winning the Lottery as a Kid

Here’s a lesson for any child reading this: Always give accurate directions to strangers when they approach you and ask you for help! You could be the beneficiary of a crisp, international, one-dollar bill! “An American gentleman asked me for directions and gave me a one-dollar bill as a souvenir,” recalls one man. “This was in post-communist Hungary, and I was maybe ten years old then. I thought I won the lottery. I still have it.” I love that he still has the bill; how cool is that?

2. Being a Fantasy Book Model

Suppose you have a gorgeous head of hair and a symmetrical face. In that case, you may miss out on the money-making opportunity of a lifetime if you don’t consider a side hustle as a book cover model! According to a handful of people, they answered an ad, posed for a few photos with their long hair flowing in the wind, signed a few papers, and are getting residual checks to this day! It’s an honest day’s work if you can find it!

If you’ve ever been addicted to smartphone games (and who hasn’t) and played a few of them since their inception, you may be able to sell your account to another person for a tidy profit! Many men and women confess they’ve sold their Clash of Clans (and assorted similar games) accounts to others once they’ve leveled up their characters enough. Surprisingly, gamers are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for accounts in good standing with leveled-up characters!

4. The Easiest Tutoring Gig Ever

I must commend any young person for making money in the easiest way possible. One ex-college tutor revealed he was hired to help a high-school student allegedly struggling in his math classes. As it turns out, the kid’s mom just wanted to ensure her son’s homework was complete every evening! He explains it hilariously: “His mother basically paid me $20 an hour to make sure he did his homework, which he finished in about five minutes,” the man recalls. “We then played video games for the next 55 minutes, and whenever the mother would check on us, I would say something mathematical, then he would say something mathematical, and I would say, ‘Exactly, now you’ve got it.'”

5. Salvaging a Car Break-in

The following scenario did not happen to me. A person broke into my Jeep Wrangler a few years back and stole my high-end stereo receiver from the dash. They did a good job, essentially cutting it out of the dash clean. I filed a police report and alerted my insurance company. After paying my deductible, the appraiser sent me a check for $2,400 to cover damages to my dash and to replace the stereo. I looked at my dash, superglued a bracket together, and installed the original Jeep stereo back into the dash, covering up any damage. I kept the $2,400 and sold the Jeep a few months later. Nope, the preceding scenario did not happen to me at all.

6. The Easiest $600 Ever

Sometimes, a money-making opportunity can seem too good to be true. In one case, it was lucrative and effortless to accomplish! “I answered an ad on Craigslist,” explains one man. “A dude shaved my head and filmed it. He paid me $600.” Wow. Herein lies an important life lesson: Always scour Craigslist for the easiest money-making opportunities! (Just stay away from the personal ads.)

7. The Right Place at the Right Time

If you want to make money without doing anything, you must be at the right place, at the right time. Countless people recall instances where they were gambling at a craps table in Las Vegas, and the person next to them went on such a wild winning streak that the person started doling out cash to everyone around them. I’ve witnessed this in person; my friend was unknowingly cheering on a high roller while waiting for me to finish playing when she was rewarded with a $100 casino chip as thanks for enthusiastically supporting the high roller. Life is funny.

8. Magical Palm Readings

Countless people can’t believe how they earned extra bucks when they were younger, and one person described a situation that seems more effortless than others. “I used to get paid to read palms at parties,” confesses one man. “Despite my ‘entertainment purposes only’ disclaimer, people always took it too seriously. Even when they had seen me doing magic shows.” I wouldn’t exactly be lining up to get my palms read by a guy pulling rabbits out of a hat a few minutes earlier.

To the chagrin of countless men and women, attending focus groups is a money-making strategy still prevalent in 2023. While they’re more challenging to find these days, focus groups are still very much a part of a company’s research and development budget. Many focus groups pay upwards of $100 for a few hours of your time, including a question and answer session and plenty of opportunity for product feedback.
